SHARE PointClouds Studio and SLAM Capture FAQ

Direct Answer

Reliable SLAM results require correct field capture, processing, and validation. Use manual corresponding-point registration for separate scans, apply coordinate transformations with valid control points, review trajectories and linked photos for diagnostics, and verify accuracy with independent checks. Use the point cloud—not 3DGS—for measurements, sections, and CAD drafting.

Without an available network, login may not complete, some advanced functions such as 3DGS may not work normally, and logs cannot be uploaded for technical support.

This page covers SHARE SLAM S20, SHARE SLAM S20 SE, SHARE SLAM S100, the SHARE3DCAM C10 Series, and SHARE PointClouds Studio. Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) results depend on the route, environment, source-data completeness, control method, and independent checks. Supported software tools still require correct configuration and review.

Software and Processing

1. Can multiple scans be registered automatically?

SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6 supports manual corresponding-point registration. Select a reference point cloud and a point cloud to be registered, then pick at least three clear pairs of fixed matching features. Distribute the points across the overlap and avoid clustered or collinear selections. Review the alignment and errors before generating the registered result. Merge only after registration is accepted.

2. Does SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6.0 support a 3D mouse?

Yes. SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6.0 supports navigation devices such as a 3D mouse for model-space viewing.

3. Can I review the capture trajectory and photographs?

Yes. SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6.0 can display trajectory information and link it with photo points, photographs, and the point cloud. Use this view to investigate route gaps or unusual jumps. Trajectory visibility does not prove that the result meets an accuracy requirement; use independent checks.

4. What does the RTK quality indication mean?

Real-time kinematic (RTK) quality information helps identify the current positioning state. It is an operational indicator, not automatic acceptance. Review the trajectory, control method, coordinates, and independent check results.

5. How do I extract multiple sections?

In Section Extraction, define the direction and the width required by the project. Then choose one method:

  • Batch Cutting: set Number of Sections and Batch Interval.
  • Custom Interval: enter the required custom positions.

Use Preview to inspect and adjust all proposed positions, then extract the sections. Processing time varies with point-cloud size, section count, and workstation resources.

6. Can the software transform coordinates? Is PPK built in?

SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6 can transform an existing point cloud using at least three valid control points, or confirmed translation, rotation, and scale parameters.

Post-processed kinematic (PPK) computation is not an all-in-one process inside the software. Use an external PPK tool to process rover, base-station, and navigation data and generate an RTKLIB POS trajectory. After checking continuity and solution quality, use that file only as the Trajectory Source in GNSS Fusion. This global navigation satellite system (GNSS) input does not replace independent check points.

7. Can CAD drawings contain English text?

Yes. SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6.0 supports English text in the CAD drafting workflow. Check fonts, display, layers, and text content in the receiving CAD environment before delivery.

Field Conditions and Data Quality

8. How should glass, mirrors, and dark surfaces be captured?

Avoid remaining directly in front of large reflective surfaces. Capture stable geometry such as frames, corners, and adjacent walls from several angles, and use closer supplementary passes for dark materials when necessary. Record unresolved reflective or missing areas in the deliverable notes.

9. What should I do if the point cloud drifts or separates into layers?

Plan loops, move smoothly, slow down at doorways and stairs, and avoid abrupt turns or long stationary periods. If the site was captured as separate scan tasks, reconstruct the tasks separately and then use manual corresponding-point registration in reliable overlap areas before merging. If a single complete scan was already captured, post-processing cannot split it into separate reconstruction tasks; it can only crop or delete unwanted point-cloud data. If critical areas are missing or the trajectory is clearly abnormal, adjust the route and recapture. Post-processing cannot replace missing field data.

10. What should I do when RTK fusion fails or the signal is weak?

Begin in a suitable open area when the device workflow requires satellite positioning and monitor the quality state. In urban canyons, under trees, or beneath roofs, use a control-point strategy, shorter capture segments, or another surveying method. An externally generated POS trajectory may be used in GNSS Fusion, but independent three-dimensional and elevation checks remain necessary.

11. Does apparent wall thickness mean that the scanner penetrated the wall?

No. Surface thickness can result from ranging uncertainty, incidence angle, material response, motion, and noise. Review scan angle, distance, overlap, and point-cloud consistency before deciding whether recapture is needed.

12. How can point density be improved?

Improve coverage in the field by moving at an appropriate speed, capturing important areas from multiple angles, and adding supplementary passes. Viewer display settings do not increase the density of the final point cloud.

Version, Network, and Delivery

13. What happens without an available network?

Login may not complete, some advanced functions such as three-dimensional Gaussian splatting (3DGS) may not work normally, and logs cannot be uploaded. Preserve the project, source data, outputs, and local diagnostic information until connectivity is available.

14. How do I upgrade to SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6.0?

Obtain the current installer from the official Download Center. Back up project data and the existing installation information before upgrading, and confirm compatibility with the device and project workflow.

For SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.6, the published baseline includes 64-bit Windows 11 and an RTX 3060 or better. Point-cloud mapping requires at least 8 GB of dedicated video memory (VRAM), while 3DGS requires at least 12 GB. The system should have at least 64 GB of RAM and at least 100 GB of free storage. When CUDA, NVIDIA’s parallel computing platform, is used for point-cloud colorization, NVIDIA driver 572.83 or later is required. Match resources to dataset size and concurrent workload.

16. How should a recurring issue be documented?

Retain the source data, project, outputs, trajectory, photographs, and local diagnostic information. Record the full software version, device model, workstation configuration, trigger conditions, failing stage, and reproduction steps. When network access is available, submit logs and sanitized sample data through the approved support channel.

17. What does the CAD export contain?

Computer-aided design (CAD) drafting export generates both drawing exchange format (DXF) and DWG files, and both are included in the exported ZIP package. Check layers, fonts, units, coordinates, annotations, closure, and critical dimensions before issue.

RVT, IFC, and complete building information modeling (BIM) deliverables require downstream professional modeling and verification. Point-cloud formats such as LAS, PLY, PCD, E57, and RCS serve different exchange needs and should be selected according to the project specification.

18. Is 3DGS a measurement deliverable?

No. 3DGS supports photorealistic viewing. Measurements, accuracy checks, sections, and CAD drafting should use the point cloud.
